This thing works great. I have a stand alone one that I put on my patio. I am a magnet for mosquitos. Now I light it on and wait for 15 mins. As long as I sit on patio in 15ft of the unit, I get 0 mosquito bite. I do agree the repellent pads and also the little propane thing cost a lot. And one pad does not last that long.

This thing apparently works very well. However it requires you to buy TWO different disposable parts to work. They are way too expensive when you need to buy the replacement parts. It's better to get the version that screws on top of a propane can instead.
