Non 4k version is a very slow device. Buy 4k version instead even if you only have 1080p tv.

I agree, the 4k is faster and has smoother operation, definitely noticeable and I think it is worth the extra money //@anonymous: Non 4k version is a very slow device. Buy 4k version instead even if you only have 1080p tv.

Can anyone tell me why one would prefer roku over prime or Netflix or other streaming services? What am I not seeing?

You are confusing between device and service. Roku streaming device is a device which can be used to watch prime video and Netflix. //@anonymous: Can anyone tell me why one would prefer roku over prime or Netflix or other streaming services? What am I not seeing?

This is a streaming device. It does come with free Roku channel, but you can add Netflix, Hulu, CBS, Disney+ and hundreds of other streaming channels services. Or not. It's up to you. The advantage of going with Roku as opposed to Google Chrome, Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV is that those guys have an intense battle going on for market share and they cut each other from their services. Roku stayed out of it so far and it paid off for their customers. //@Anonymous: Can anyone tell me why one would prefer roku over prime or Netflix or other streaming services? What am I not seeing?

Languages supported by Roku are limited, the subtitles and files in Asian languages are showing as squares and I could not find a workaround online. I recently switched to Fire stick and it doesn’t have this issue.

If you're not a hacker, a Roku is better out of the box because Google Play and Apple are available apps by default. //@Anonymous: Thanks! This is what I thought //@anonymous: Fire tv stick 4k. Not sure how it’s a deal. But of all streaming platforms, appletv is the most polished. (ROKU is pretty good, but not as polished)

Roku can do AirPlay now (I do it on a 4K stick and our Roku TV) but there's a good 500ms latency. Apple TV is much faster and more reliable if you plan on doing a lot of AirPlay. //@Anonymous: Roku can connect iphone. //@Anonymous: I love appletv since I can connect all my iPads, iphones to a bigger TV screen. the biggest gripe for ROKU is it can't connect to third-party Bluetooth speakers but only its proprietary ROKU Bluetooth speakers.

Not worth it. Too slow for 2023. Get 4k max or get Roku. Don't waste your time with slow, outdated hardware.
