It is a new technology Intel uses on some motherboards, basically it sits between the CPU and other persistent memory to store commonly used chunks of data. It's supposed to make it more efficient. Benchmarks show limited to moderate improvement. //@anonymous: what is intel optane?

Optane is SSD module. Sort of raid array is created using fast Optane and slow HDD. 16GB of Optane is enough to reduce boot time. In order to reduce applications start time 32GB is necessary. If you replace HDD with SSD the Optane is practically useless. You can have it as disk of 16 GB on your system. You dob't to have build a volume. So, Optane is useful to speed up system where system disk is HDD. It works only for windows and CPU's 7th and 8th generations. //@Anonymous: what is intel optane?
