If you happen to have 2k lying around in your drawer and you couldn't find any other better way to spend them, go for it. Otherwise, this is a terrible buy. If you bet on gold future price increase, buy Gold ETF instead. Nobody buys good bar for its face value.

Not including interest and compounding. For the past 5 years, S&P grew 98% vs gold price grew 68%. Stock has higher return.
