Final 2018 Tax Rate is Out

Here is the Final Tax Rate for 2018.
  • 2018 Tax Rate Part I
  • 2018 Tax Rate Part II
  • Individual tax cuts: 7-rate structure, the same as exists now, with lower rates and revised bracket amounts. Top rate is 37%
  • Standard deduction and personal exemptions: Along with the individual rate cuts, the standard deduction is effectively doubled to $12,000 for single filers and $24,000 for joint filers. Personal exemptions are completely eliminated.
  • Child tax credit: Currently, the child tax credit is only $1,000 per qualified child, but the new law increases it to $2,000, with $1,400 being refundable.
  • Corporations tax from 35% to 21%
  • State and local taxes: You can deduct $10,000 in state and local property taxes or state and local income taxes or sales taxes or a combination
  • Inherit up to $22 million tax-free
  • "Pass through" companies get a 20% reduction (up to $315,000)
  • Mortgage interest deduction gets smaller to $750k cap
  • Individual AMT: The individual alternative minimum tax (AMT) remains, but the threshold would be tweaked to exclude any taxpayer with income under $500,000 or family below $1 million.
  • Corporate AMT: The corporate AMT, which was preserved by the Senate bill, is repealed. This was a critical concession to businesses eligible for the research credit.
  • Estate tax exemption: For 2018, the estate tax exemption can shelter up to $5.6 million of assets from estate tax. This generous exclusion is effectively doubled to $11 million.
  • Not changing: student loan deduction, medical expense deduction, graduate student tuition waivers, Retirement accounts

need to work and pay taxes. That is how we make America Great Again!

By anonymous on 12/20/2017, 05:47 PM EST
It's a good thing! Lower tax is to reward the hard working people. There are just way too many lazy people that take advantage of the hard working folks, they want the hard working ones to contribute more into the welfare system for the lazy a** to enjoy. //@anonymous: Of course it's going to work that way. The more you make and pay in taxes the more you save with this tax plan. Why is that a bad thing? //@Anonymous: Another shameless attack on the middle class! The rich give themselves millions of tax cut while baiting the poor with a few hundred. Meanwhile, they rob the true middle class.

It would be naive to assume the riches pay their fair shares of the taxes, with the tax loopholes and offshore tax haven accounts, the riches are paying at lower tax rates than most middle-classes.

By anonymous on 12/18/2017, 01:23 PM EST
Wrong! You much know nothing about AMT. Go get yourself educated on this before you talk. Otherwise you would end up being a laughing subject. //@anonymous: individual AMT threshold is only slightly increased. people used to get hit by AMT, still would pay that amount of total tax. since there are much fewer deduction available, the AMT will be unlikely to "show up". Anyway, middle class family in high tax state should expect to pay more or no change at best.

Short-Sighted, do you want to bet? He will be one of the beneficiary but NOT you! //@Anonymous: Ten years later when you look back, you will find Trump is a good, honest man. He has three wife, but save you thousands $. H Clinton is a joke. Laughed by the GREAT history.

Stop whining, the child tax credit is going to be double and you going to benefit, don't forget to thank Trump for that. //@anonymous: So middle class in NY and NJ is subsidizing the rest of the country. I will be paying more, a lot more if not for my 2 kids. One and a half trillion dollar more to the deficit without bi-partisanship, just great.

Isn't that something they should pay? Or where they get their millions of dollar from? //@Anonymous: Don't forget that top 1% also pay millions of dollar in taxes. Right on!!! //@anonymous: Becuase you pay way less tax than rich people, so they got more tax cut than you, why you complain? A simple example, they pay $100 tax, you pay $5. Now they pay $80, you pay $4.20. Of course, they got more cut simply because of they already more than you. If you don't like, just earn more money and pay more tax like them //Another shameless attack on the middle class! Top 1% never pay the tax by the rate you see in a chart. They hire professional advisors to lower the rate by strategies. People need to learn some math. 1.5 trillion cut. 300 million people tota. Say 70% goes to companies, 30% goes to every one in this country. That is $150 per person, or $600 per family of four. If any family gets more than that, others have to get less or pay. Don't forget the following parts in the bill:

The bill eliminates the $4,050 personal exemption that taxpayers can currently claim for themselves and dependents
The individual provisions would expire by the end of 2025
You can pass your heirs up to $22 million tax-free
No corporate “AMT” tax
“Pass through” companies get a 20 percent reduction //@Anonymous: to those vote for trump, enjoy your tax cut!

SAD!!!! Please remember that very few companies with actual productions in the US have to pay 20% effective tax rate. This corporate tax reduction will benefit companies in real estate business, finance, investing or having production oversea... Another word, your uncle Trump and family will benefit the most. You will see all of your gain in federal tax cut will be eaten away by local taxes due to shortage of federal funds in the near future.

Tax cut came little too late for me. Sold a condo last year immediately jumped up to the 39% tax bracket, paid an additional two other taxes, alternative minimum tax and net profit investment tax.
