Subscription is not required, it is good if working, but weird bug/feature that the basic functionality including turning on the light will be gone if no connectivity. It really depends, MacOS takes much less space compare to Windows 11. For reference, I have an 2018 MBP, macOS takes 12GB and applications takes 65GB. So if you are not using the laptop for storage purpose, 256G is likely enough.

Apple sale this item, the goal is to earn your iCloud subscription for storage. //@Anonymous: It really depends, MacOS takes much less space compare to Windows 11. March 23: I was able to go straight through Walmart AND Target, check out, and was able to place the order.
