Now, as you know, apple chips are not getting much better, partly because of lack of good engineers and the slow improvement over the 3/4nm node. So... getting M1 pro instead may be a better idea.

Previous gen M1 processors are a better value and should be more than sufficient for 70-80% of all users. If anything, Apple has bad marketing. No professional user is going to buy the MB with low specs, and no average user is going to spend $1.2K+ on it either. They should have significantly lowered the price, or not have an option with 8GB RAM/256GB storage.

1), M1 is super fast with no heat. 2), Mac is very efficient in using memory. I am a programmer converted from PC to MAC ~ 10 years ago, never look back. Of course, I bought a MacBook Pro, but I got a M1 MacBook Air for my son, he is very happy about it.

Not entirely true. When you run out of ram, which is relatively easy to do with only 8gb,the computer is forced to use swap space which is basically your ssd drive. Your computer RAM is essentially short term memory where data is stored as the processor needs it. This isn't to be confused with long-term data that's stored on your hard drive, which stays there even when your computer is turned off.(info wouldn’t stay the your ram, the temporally memory pages are always on your SSD.) //@anonymous: Not entirely true. I dont get why Apple didn't make the base model to 16G which will probably cost them $10-12 but can jack up the base model by $60 and sell them like cakes. 8G is small niche market mostly for novice users. Truth is that we all know 8G would be enough 95% of the time but anyone with real technical experience wouldn't want to get anything less than 16G.

The M1 version doesn't suffer the low band issue in the 256Gb model. And you probably don't use it open a hundred tabs and two IDE windows with Docker containers in the back. I spent $300 on the previous version, Oculus Go. Used it after I bought it. It was very slow and got very hot if you use it for 5 mins. And 64G space gone after a few downloads.
Next time I try to use it, told me I mus switch to FB account to use it. The third time I tried to use it, it was dead (won't bootup anymore). Hardware issue. Out of warranty.

I spent $300 on the previous version, Oculus Go. Used it after I bought it. It was very slow and got very hot if you use it for 5 mins. And 64G space gone after a few downloads.
Next time I try to use it, told me I mus switch to FB account to use it. The third time I tried to use it, it was dead (won't bootup anymore). Hardware issue. Out of warranty.

If 256G was not a single module like M1 Air, this is a great choice, but since it is not, go either m1 air or m1 pro, depending on your needs. I got both, one for my daughter and one for me, and yes, I tried M2 256G and M2 512G, but the former is slow, the latter is too expensive compared to its capability.

While there is a cost aspect of it, there are not that many monitors comparable in quality to this at this price. Dell U4021QW ultrasharp is closest at a $300 cheaper ticket but its nowhere close to this quality on color gamut or brightness not to mention the lack of camera or speakers. The closest is the LG 5K ultrafine but it is of the same price as of today $1299 and its speakers are not upto sample - I have this monitor as well and I know. The LG 5K display is good works well with macbooks and mini and studio and pretty much all macs. wait, it costs the same as the apple studio, guess that does not work for you huh ! //@anonymous: Over priced. Apple refuses to fix interconnectivity issues between MacBooks and 3rd part monitors so they can sell more of these.

It's crazy small for the price, but when you're a professional photographer (on the smaller side) and try editing on an Asus ProArt monitor, the Apple Studio Display is simply the best at color representation. Get an Apple Card and pay monthly using the EDU site for the discount.
